Back to the Map of the Yampa Valley

Elk River from Steamboat Springs on Vimeo.

Beginning in the Routt National Forest and flowing down into the Yampa River, the Elk is one of the best rivers for fly-fishing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  Supporting large populations of wild rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, the Elk is a great public river for fly fishing in Steamboat. Much like the Yampa River, the flow of the Elk varies significantly depending on the point of the year.  With a heavy spring runoff, the river is often too high to fish in the early spring, but is open throughout much of the rest of the year.  The Elk River has many different sections that are not featured in the video above.  But Check back!  We are currently working on putting together a few different videos to highlight these different sections.
