While the public water in the Yampa Valley is great, there are also a few lakes and sections of river that are held as private water. These areas are known for their beautiful landscapes surrounding the sections of river. Private water in Steamboat is usually owned by either an individual or by a community. A few of the main communities are – The More Ranch, which has a unique river flow, allowing those who live in the one of the few homes to fish for 300+ days every year. Catamount Lake has access to the river directly above the More Ranch and is a great place for you and your family to relax during the day and fish in the evening. Marabou Ranch has access to a beautiful section of the Elk River and a wide range of activities and sports for you and your family to enjoy right in Marabou. One of the main advantages to living in one of the communities mentioned above is neighbors often share access to each others water. Allowing you to easily walk a few houses down for a whole new solitary experience on a different section of private river.
Many of the fly fishing stores in town have access to some of the areas described above and other private water around town. Bucking Rainbow, for example, has access to over 40 miles of private fishing water. If you are in town for a vacation or for an extended stay and are interested in fishing some of the water in town that is privately held, give me a call at 970.879.0879 or send me an email at Jon@TheSteamboatGroup.com, I would be more than happy to help you find a way to experience some of the best river sections that Steamboat has to offer.
